The principle law enforcement agency in Burundi is the National Police of Burundi (French: Police nationale du Burundi, PNB). The police falls within the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Public Security. It is separate from the National Intelligence Service (SNR), the state intelligence agency. The PNB aims to be “a republican and professional police force capable of ensuring comprehensive and integrated security, ensuring the freedom of the population within the framework of community policing and guaranteeing the well-being of its personnel”
